Did you know...?

In October 2010 Part L building regulations where approved...

So what does that mean?

This affected replacement windows and doors had significant impact on the fenestration industry. Those Windows and Doors that do not adhere to these standards and do not comply with the thermal installation performance they can no longer be specified.  The notable exception being those required in Listed properties and those of significant architectural importance.

In short unless, as in our case, timber products are factory glazed and fully finished prior to glazing, they simply won’t comply with the thermal performance required of the new Part L – and they will be rejected as unfit for purpose  (Roy Wakeman CEO, the performance Timber Products Group Limited)

U-Values?

A U value is a measure of heat loss in a building element such as a wall, floor or roof. This means that the higher the U value the worse the thermal performance of the building envelope. A low U value usually indicates high levels of insulation. They are useful as it is a way of predicting the composite behaviour of an entire building element rather than relying on the properties of individual materials.

U values are important because they form the basis of any energy or carbon reduction standard.

CASE STUDY: Colchester- Mrs Anderson

In Septemer 2012 Mrs Anderson walked into the Fornham st Martin showroom and was extemely impressed with our designs. She decided to have our beautiful sash windows installed into her 20th century property.

Date: September 2012
Range: Traditional Sash Window

Products: 1 Traditional Sash Window for kitchen finished in off-white

History of property: Mrs. Anderson explains; “The house was built in 1903 by a farmer who used the furthest part of his land as his retirement property. It is brick built and although pre-Lutyens has many of the features found in his work. It stands about 200 yards from the village Church, although the main part of the village is about ½ a mile away.” Colchester is one of England’s oldest towns, pre-dating the Roman camp for which it was named. It is growing rapidly at present as it has a good rail service into London. Mrs Anderson’s property is not in a conservation area itself but there is one very close by.

Reasons for needing to replace kitchen window:  Mrs. Anderson enlightens us on why she felt the need to change her window. “I wanted to replace my original kitchen windows for two reasons – firstly because although they were still sound they were too heavy for me to open and close, and secondly to improve insulation in the winter – the kitchen faces north across a valley.”

One traditional sash window was installed with Astragal Squares and an Off White Finish, to complement the windows already present in the house Timber Windows also trimmed and fashioned the timber.

Reasons for choosing Timber Windows of Fornham: Mrs. Anderson visited the showroom in Fornham in July after hearing about the company from her son, she describes the reason why she chose us to carry out her installation;  I was happy with what I saw when I came to your showroom, and the receptionist was friendly and helpful. I heard about your showroom from my son who lives in Chimney Mills- two or three miles away from you.”

Testimonial: “I was very happy with the installation – your fitters were good workmen who coped admirably in a fairly difficult to access part of the kitchen and were pleasant and not demanding. I would be happy to recommend your product and your company to anyone.”

CASE STUDY: Woodbridge- Mr Ritchie

In July 2012 Mr Ritchie chose Timber Windows of Fornham to install a traditional sash window into his property.

Date- July 2012

Range- Traditional Sash Window

Products- 1 Traditional Sash Window, with a white finish.

History Of property- The property was built in the 1870’s, it is built single brick. The house stands in the heart of the village Ufford in the county of Suffolk. Ufford and the surrounding Melton is steeped in a great deal of history. The property itself is near a very popular country pub.

Reasons for change- Mr Ritchie explains “a new rear window needed to be fitted as the previous window had become rotten.”

One traditional Sash Window was installed with Astragal Squares and a clean white finish.

Reasons for choosing Timber windows- Mr Ritchie visited one of our showrooms in Woodbridge, Notcutts, where he was informed about Timber Windows. He describes that he was very impressed by the work ethic of the staff. Mr Ritchie continued to say; “I was confident and happy that Timber Windows would provide the best service”.

Testimonial- “I was very impressed with the quality of the workmanship, and I am very happy with the finished product. I would definitely recommend Timber Windows to my family and friends”

CASTE STUDY: Colchester- Ms Brennan

Timber Windows of Fornham installed windows in Ms Brennans property in July 2012.

Date:
July 2012

History of the property: Ms Brennan explains that;
"The house was in built in 1901 and is brick built. It was built by Paxman's Diesel Engines and is part of a number of houses built for its workers. It is located in Colchester, the oldest recorded town in Britain. Colchester, or Camulodunum.as it was called, was the capital of Britain in the Roman times."

Reasons for wanting new windows: Ms Brennan wanted new windows because "when I purchased the house 23 years ago, the previous owner had taken out the original sash windows in the front of the house and replaced with modern, but out of place, window frames. The couple of sash windows that remained in the house, were very drafty and as well as wanting to improve the look of the house, I was also looking to improve the insulation."

Why did you choose Timber Windows of Fornham: Ms Brennan describes how she trawled through Google search to find a company who she thought would be best to carry out her project.
" I chose them (Timber Windows) because I felt they would do the best job.My communication with Timber Windows was very good at all times."

Testimonial
"I was delighted that I chose to put my trust in Timber Windows – the products are excellent and the fitters were friendly and efficient. Apart from being able to admire the new windows, you would hardly have known that they had been there. Virtually no damage was done to the surrounding walls. I would have no hesitation in recommending Timber Windows to my friends."
